**UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM **

Hello there citizens of Kicsiland!

First, there is a new photo album posted HERE (in the Air Force Album), but you should read this post first.

Yesterday (Sunday) we had a BBQ again, now that our famous chef Jackie (Civilian we work with) is back from being on leave for a couple weeks. He cooked up an assortment of steaks and chicken, and with a selection of sides we brought back from the chowhall, we had ourselves a happy little BBQ. Nice day too, sunny, in the high 60s...not bad at all. Here is a picture of the BBQ loaded up with meat..

Then today (Monday the 22nd), we come in to work and it's very windy and a bit dusty. One look at the flag to see which direction the wind is from, and we knew it was coming. What we didnt know was how bad it was going to get. I remeber the worst sandstorm i went through in Kuwait...I thought THAT was bad. Nope..this one topped it. Wind gusts at 50 knots, I think visibility was probably <100 feet at times. This sand gets EVERYWHERE, and it is NASTY. Why would ANYONE WANT to live in this place,...no wonder these people are always pissed off at the rest of the world, they probably have sand stuck in every crevis of their body! Of course we couldnt resist going out and taking some pictures, so here are a couple...and YES, it really is that orangish color in real life...nice eh?

Some of you will probably notice that the flag is at half staff. Yes, we had another sad day today. It is very sad to see our flag like this. I hope this will be the last time while I'm here. I can't go into details because it has not been released yet, but of course CNN has it already, so I'll quote them and let you guess what they mean by 'northern iraq'.

"Baghdad, Iraq (CNN) -- Two U.S. Army pilots died Sunday in a helicopter accident in Iraq, the military said. The pilots' aircraft "made a hard landing" near an airfield on a U.S. base in northern Iraq, a military statement said. "There were no enemy forces present, and no hostile fire was reported." The soldiers were assigned to Task Force Marne, which is responsible for U.S. operations in northern Iraq. The location of the base and the soldiers' identities were withheld pending family notification."

(Quoted from CNN Website)

Sorry to end this on that sad note, but I know SOMEONE will ask about the flag. Anyways, hope you are all doing good!

Until next time.... Kicsi out....

** UPDATE **

So the crash of the helicopter mentioned above happened on our flightline, maybe 1000 meters from our building. Some of our guys saw it drop down fast and hard as they were coming in to land. I dont know what happened, whether it was mechanical, weather related, or what, but very sad. here's the official Release)
